Cuddly cakes: Bunnies and easter chicks

Get ready for easter with these little guys...

Here’s the cakeormistake take on easter.

Firstly I followed Jamie Oliver’s sponge recipe, (from his COOK with Jamie book). Which I have to say is top notch. (I think it has something to do with adding four whole eggs into the mix).

You will need:

  • Sponge mixture:
  • 225g unsalted butter
  • 225g self-raising flour
  • 225g caster sugar
  • 4 Free-range eggs (to give it that extra wow factor)
  • Decorations:
  • Icing sugar
  • Butter
  • Writing icing tools
  • Wine gums (for bunny teeth and chick beaks)
  • You’re ready to go!

Method: Cake mixture:

  1. Preheat the oven, 180c
  2. Beat the butter and sugar together
  3. Add the eggs one at a time
  4. Add the flour
  5. Grease each cupcake holder (if you’re using silcon ones so they don’t stick)
  6. Put in the oven and you’re ready to go!

Cook for about 10 minutes

Bunnies:

Don't you just want to eat him up!

  1. Once cooled, slice the top off a heart-shaped cake.
  2. Cut the slice in half to make the ears

Cut a slice off the top of the cupcake.

  3. Cover the top of the cupcake and the slice in chocolate spread
  4. Stick the ‘ears’ onto the cupcake (stick them on one side of the cake)
  5. Then draw on the face with black writing icing.
  6. Add teeth either by drawing them on with white writing icing, or cut up tiny pieces of marshmallow or a white wine gum.
  7. Easy-easter bunnies!

Fluffy Chicks:

Surely I must win a prize for cutest cake ever!

  1. Make some butter icing (beat together butter and icing sugar)
  2. Cover a cupcake completely in the butter icing. Place it down on its side rather than upright.
  3. Using a black writing icing pen draw eyes.
  4. Cut an orange wine gum into a beak shape
  5. Attach to the cupcake
  6. Cut two more pieces for the feet and slot them underneath the cake
  7. And there you go-cheeky chicks

Also check out these dog shaped cakes I came across…

Verdict: Quick and easy to make and tasty too
